Saturday in Lantaka Study Center

Last Saturday, 28 July, the boys (8 of them!) went to Lantaka Study Center for confession with Fr. Belarmino, the Study Center's Chaplain.

They also attended a talk on "Friendship" by Sammy. Lantaka has a year-round calendar of activities for boys in grade school and high school.

We hope that we can also have as many activities with the Ipil Boys' Club in the future! Suggestions (and DONATIONS) are greatly appreciated!

Creator of "Guyito" talks on Cartooning

Jess Abrera, multi-awarded artist and cartoonist, more famous with his sketches of the Inquirer mascot "Guyito", spent a an hour with eager and curious kids from the Ipil Boys' Club last Saturday. The event was held at the BITE Resto and Grill along Gil Fernando Avenue in Marikina.
The Ipil Boys' Club is honored to have Jess around with the kids last Saturday. Thanks a lot, Jess and we wish you more success in the years to come!
Kids are beginning to warm up as Jess starts sketching ...
... still, some of the kids are discussing what to do next ... they were probably not listening :-)
The kids have started to sketch their masterpieces as Jess looks on ...
Save this group picture for a later date ... someone might just turn out to be an artist in a few year's time!

Cartooning with Jess Abrera on June 30

Award-winning artist and Inquirer Cartoonist Jess Abrera (creator of Inquirer's carabao mascot Guyito) will be our main speaker at 9:00-10:30am on Saturday, June 30 at the BITE Resto and Grill (along Gil Fernando Avenue, near Blue Wave). He will talk about his work and, of course, cartooning. Just bring your pencil and a piece of paper for a short demo on cartooning.

A collection of Mr. Abrera's works have been published in book form entitled "Pinoy Nga!". You can go to his website to see more ===> Jess Abrera's Website.

Happy Fathers' Day!

Happy Fathers' Day to All!
We may not shower him with praise
Nor mention his name in song,
And sometimes it seems that we forget
The joy he spreads as he goes along,
But it doesn’t mean that we don’t know
The wonderful role that he has had.
And away down deep in every heart
There’s a place that is just for Dad.....

Visit to PAF Museum and Lufthansa Technik Philippines

Not to be discouraged with the postponement of the Lake Island Campout, the Ipil Boys' Club went full force on June 2 with 10 Kids and 8 "Dads & Friends" on a visit to the Philippine Air Force Museum and the high-tech hangars of Lufthansa Technik Philippines.

The Kids and Dads are being briefed by Sarge before the tour (below).

Below, the kids pose behind an experimental trainer jet plane ("Made in the Philippines"). The museum itself is not yet finished but "Sarge" said that it would be fully-furnished by August of this year. We hope to visit the Museum again by that time.

Meanwhile, the kids try their luck outside and they pose in front of a Huey helicopter. This chopper has had better days and had seen the likes of Vietnam and the Philippines ...

Here's Mon trying out the F-5 for size. ("I think he likes it!")

Fathers, Sons and Friends pose again in front of the former Blue Diamond F-5.

The Kids had an equally great time at the maintenance and overhaul hangars of Lufthansa Technik Philippines.

The whole gang, again, posing in front of a PAL Airbus 320 parked at the maintenance hangar.

June 2 Campout Reminders

By the way, please come to the campout with some gear in tow.

You need to bring the following:

  • Tent (always handy during a campout)
  • Sleeping Bag (keeps your back warm outdoors)
  • Flashlights (make sure to include fresh batteries)
  • Jacket/Sweater (in case it rains or gets too cold)
  • Cap (in case it gets too hot or it rains)
  • Clothes (off course!)
  • Swimming trunks (only if you want to swim)
  • Towel, soap and shampoo (clean is healthy)
  • Rubber shoes and/or sandals (not unless you want to come barefooted)
  • Mosquito repellant (important! Dengue can strike anywhere!)
  • First aid kit (forget it if you're Superman!)
  • Utensils (Fork and Spoon or Chopsticks)
  • Water jug (don't forget to bring water!)
  • Toilet paper (hmmmm ...)

You can also bring snacks ... but these will be shared among everybody in the spirit of camaraderie ... We will also have a "family rosary" ... so bring your rosaries!

Don't forget the PhP750.- per person campout fee. This will cover for food, resort accommodations, activity materials etc.

Come in healthy and lively! See you there!

The 1st Ipil Boys' Club Campout definitely on June 2!

Our very first ever camp-out is now definitely set on June 2 at the Lake Island Resort in Binangonan, Rizal

We will be pitching tents starting at 10am on Saturday, June 2. A hearty lunch follows at 12noon after the Angelus.

We will then have a get-together of all participants so that we get to know each and everybody in the Club. There will be games for the kids in the afternoon and a Father-and-Son fishing activity.

Dinner and campfire and more games for the boys will follow in the evening.

Watch out for the bravery test for boys!

Of course, while the kids are at play, the Dads will have their get-together, too.

Wake-up time on Sunday, 3 June is at 6:30am. Holy Mass follows either at 7am or 8am in the camp or in the nearby parish church. The morning is free for fathers and sons to bond together ... but not before having a good breakfast! Exact time schedules will be given on the day of the activity.

Campout fee is PhP750.00 each. This includes entrance to the resort, 3 meals and snacks and activity fee including fishing.

Please contact Randy Clarino (+63 921 586 8007), Roel Castro (+63 920 678 7859), Bobby Asuncion (+63 917 815 4292), Manjoe Mendoza (+63 920 914 2415) or Mon De Veyra (941 6171).

Museum Visit Postponed

The Air Force Museum visit is postponed because many Dads got caught up with work on that same Saturday. Call that coincidence! However, we will definitely mark this activity as important and will call you when we have rescheduled it with the Air Force crew.

Camp-out at Lake Island Resort on June 2

(Pictures from the Lake Island Website.)
Get ready for our first-ever camp-out and First General Meeting of the Ipil Boys' Club at the Lake Island Resort in Binangonan, Rizal on June 2! This will be an overnight affair with lots of fun and games! Details will be coming soon ... however, please save up for this with your Dad.

Philippine Air Force Museum Visit on 19 May

Our next Club activity will be on the 19th of May (Saturday) at the Philippine Air Force Museum. We leave Marikina at 8:00 am and drive as a convoy to the Villamor Air Base in Pasay City. Please bring water and some light snacks.
You may want to ride with your friends so that we can practice a "cleaner air environment" ... less cars, smaller carbon footprint, less pollution, cleaner air for all of us!

Soccer on Saturday!

We will have another soccer practice on Saturday at the Marist Football field starting at 8:30am. If you boys want to practice regularly on Saturdays, please inform your Dads about it and we can arrange some younger guys to train you.
Who knows, we may be able to form a good soccer team by June and we can compete in friendly matches with some schools and, better yet, compete in the more prestigious soccer festivals!

Let's go boys!

Soccer is fun!

Game On! Boys Club VS Marist Summer Clinic!

You want some? Come get some! Ipil Boys Club VS well Ipil Boys Club in a 4 vs 4 friendly match!

Hey look! It's Coach Jeune conducting a virtues class to the boys after practice. Lesson learned: Fortitude!

Stretching really ain't much of a drag...it's actually very easy, but seriously painful! But once you get used to it, it's not so bad.

Breaktime! After a very long practice, comes a very short break. Man! Well, that's football.

How 'bout some shade over here! Its hot out there you know!?

Corner Kick anyone?

Soccer Season Starts on May 5!

Good news!

Our soccer season will start on May 5 at 9:00AM at the Marist Football Field!

Why soccer?

Soccer (Football) is the most popular sport in the world. The ability to control the ball with head, body, hand and foot movements makes it an exceptionally challenging sport. Moreover, regular team play spans a full 90 minutes (2 x 45 minutes) without any time-outs! One needs stamina and determination to play one complete game.

For kids, we will be playing 7-aside games (i.e., each team is composed of 7 players instead of the regular 11 players per game). Each game will last between 10-20 minutes.

If you do not know how to play it, we will have experienced buddies who will teach you the basics so you will be able to play the game in no time.

In the next few weeks, we will be having friendly games with other schools and boys' clubs. This will really be very exciting for all of us!
